Erasing Marriage by Enabling Expressive Individualism: Marriage and the American State and Modern Times, Virtue, and Virtue Signaling with Dr. David Ayers and Dr. Carl Trueman

 

David J. Ayers is professor of sociology at Grove City College. He has previously served as Dean of the Alva J. Calderwood School of Arts and Letters, and Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Grove City College. Ayers contributed a chapter to the award-winning volume Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood edited by John Piper and Wayne Grudem. He has published in Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, Modern Reformation, Crisis Magazine to name just a few outlets. Ayers authored two academic texts for Cengage Press entitled Investigating Social Problems and Experiencing Social Research. His book Christian Marriage: A Comprehensive Introduction was released in 2019 with Lexham Press. A small book for Modern Reformation’s Core Christianity project entitled Why Would Anyone Get Married? was released in February 2022. His upcoming Against the Revolution: Sex and the Single Evangelical is set for release, by Lexham Press, on June 1. Ayers has taught courses on marriage and family for 35 years.

Carl R. Trueman is professor of biblical and religious studies at Grove City College. He previously served as the William E. Simon Visiting Fellow in Religion and Public Life at Princeton University. He is a Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington D.C., a Contributing Editor to First Things and Touchstone, and an opinion columnist at World Magazine. He is the author most recently of Strange New World: How Thinkers and Activists Redefined Identity and Sparked the Sexual Revolution.
