December 1941: 31 Days that Changed America and Saved the World

December 7, 1941. A date that changed America and the world forever. Early that Sunday morning, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor. 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded—eight Navy battleships were damaged and four of them sunk into the Pacific Ocean.

The next day, Congress declared war on Japan and the United States entered World War II. President Franklin Roosevelt called it, “a date which will live in infamy.” America’s role as a global superpower was forged and the U.S. entered an era of discovering new rights, a booming economy, and a new perspective on how citizens viewed themselves and the country.

It has been 80 years since that infamous day.
