About Rick Santorum

Senator Rick Santorum earned his B.A. from Penn State University, his M.B.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his Juris Doctor degree from the Dickinson School of Law. In 1990 Santorum ran for U.S. Congress and was elected in November 1990. As a member of Congress he fought for congressional accountability and the need for fiscal responsibility and health care reform. He earned a seat on the House Ways and Means Committee after being reelected in 1992. During this time, he also served as the Ranking Minority Member of the Subcommittee on Human Resources. Senator Santorum was elected to the U.S. Senate (PA) in 1994. He was a leader in formulating the welfare reform legislation which was passed and signed into law in 1996. As a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Senator Santorum led the fight to reform agriculture programs.
